The Artist

I’m Hemakshi Valera, a self-taught acrylic artist based in Victoria, Australia.

I came to painting entirely by accident. I have no formal art training. One day I picked up a canvas and some acrylic paints, and what started as curiosity quickly became a way to express things I couldn’t always put into words.

Music plays a big role in my work. I often paint while listening to music and try to capture the emotions it creates rather than the scene itself. Many of my paintings begin with a song, a memory, a feeling, or a moment that stays with me.

I work mainly with acrylics and enjoy building layers, texture, and atmosphere. Darker tones often find their way into my paintings, not because they are sad, but because they create space for quiet moments and deeper emotions.

I’m still learning with every painting I create. Each piece is an experiment, and each collection teaches me something new. More than anything, I hope my work gives people a moment to pause, reflect, and connect with something of their own.
